The amount of each student’s award is determined by their residency status, ACT or SAT score, and high school GPA. All Freshman Academic Scholarships are renewed every semester contingent upon full-time enrollment and excellent academic advancement. The grants are given for undergraduate study during the fall and spring semesters and last for four years.

Funding for UAH’s competitive scholarships comes from the kind of donations of university friends and graduates. A number of factors determine a student’s candidacy, such as their academic accomplishments and interests, unique skills, and leadership qualities.
Applying for competitive scholarships requires completing the extensive application available at the below link. It is not required of you to apply for certain awards. You can apply for as many scholarships as possible with only one application, provided you meet the requirements.

Transfer Student Scholarships
UAH offers special two-year scholarships in recognition of incoming transfer students’ academic success. There is no need for a separate scholarship application. Applicants are automatically considered for admission if they submit an application and official transcripts from every college they have attended.
Depending on the GPA, an annual award of $1,500 or $3,000 will be given for a period of two years. In order to be eligible for consideration, students must be pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, have never attended UAH or any other four-year university, and continue to enroll full-time at UAH.

University of Alabama in Huntsville Graduate Assistantships
Graduate students can receive financial support while they work toward their degrees through graduate assistantships. Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) are the two types of assistantships available. Whereas GRAs conduct research under a faculty member’s supervision, GTAs assist the faculty in teaching.
In order to maintain their appointment, graduate assistants must be enrolled in graduate credit courses for at least nine semester hours in the spring and fall (6 hours in the summer). The university will cover your tuition and expenses for a maximum of 12 hours per semester in exchange. Financial assistance is given according to educational level:
Fall and Spring Stipend Rates
- Level I: $4,500 – $12,500
- Level II: $5,000 – $14,000
- Level III: $6,000 – $18,500
Summer Stipend Rates
- Level I: $2,700 – $8,500
- Level II: $3,200 – $9,500
- Level III: $3,700 – $12,500

The Graduate School at UAH is pleased to be a part of the National GEM Consortium, which aims to provide underrepresented individuals from eligible backgrounds with graduate opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs. For eligible individuals interested in pursuing a graduate degree in a STEM subject, UAH offers full-tuition grants in addition to hosting the annual GEM Grad Lab Symposium.
