  2. Fulbright Foreign Student Program:
    • Young professionals, international artists, and graduate students can study and do research in the United States thanks to the Fulbright International Student Program. The Fulbright International Study Program is accessible in more than 160 nations. Every year, Fulbright offers over 4,000 scholarships to students wishing to pursue their studies overseas.

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program.

The US Department of Education and Culture (ECA) is the sponsor of the Fulbright FLTA program. The Fulbright FLTA, which is a component of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, supports assistantships in more than 35 languages at hundreds of US higher education institutions with the goal of advancing Americans’ understanding of foreign cultures and languages. Through the program, educators from over 55 nations can hone their professional abilities and obtain a firsthand understanding of the US, its people, and its culture.

American universities improve students’ language proficiency and give them a genuine knowledge of people from other countries. Fulbright FLTAs apply to the program through the Fulbright Commission/Foundation or U.S. Embassy in their home countries, just like the more than 1,800 international Fulbright Fellows who enroll in U.S. academic programs each year. For the majority of Fulbright FLTA applicants, the Institute of International Education (IIE) arranges academic internships and acts as the participants’ supervisor while they are in the country.

Fulbright Commissions/Foundations that are binational or US Embassies oversee the Fulbright Program for International Students and Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA). These offices handle all applications for FLTA programs and overseas students.

Visiting Scholars Program

A visiting student researcher is often a Ph.D. candidate from their native country who wants to work on their research for a few months (six to ten months) at a US university. They avoid enrolling in credit-bearing courses and instead look to get affiliated with a particular academic member at the institution.

Approximately 900 educators and professionals from across the globe are awarded Fulbright Scholar grants each year to conduct advanced research and give talks at American universities. Scientists from over 155 countries are eligible to apply for individual fellowships. Those who fulfill the eligibility conditions apply for grants via the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in their native country or the Fulbright Commission/Foundation.

Fulbright Study Program

The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (S-I-R) program is a special initiative of the Fulbright Scholar Program that is motivated by US higher education institutions’ aspirations to intensify their campus internationalization initiatives.

Institutions can host international scholars for a semester or an academic year as part of the S-I-R program. These scholars teach courses, help with curriculum development, give talks, create partnerships for study abroad and exchange programs, and interact with the campus and community. S-I-Rs work across departments and curricula in a number of ways to create new world studies programs, broaden the scope of existing international programs, give existing courses a global perspective, or give American students the chance to learn about a specific nation or region of the world.
