To reward deserving students who go beyond and above, a wide range of Boston University Undergraduate Scholarships is offered. The majority of awards are given out for academic excellence, although others are given to gifted performers, athletes, and artists. Additionally, you are not required to file a financial aid application or repay merit-based grants.
Boston University
Boston University is a private research university in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Before being chartered in Boston in 1869, BU was established in 1839 by a group of Boston Methodists with its first site in Newbury, Vermont. Nearly 34,000 students attend the university, which has more than 4,000 academic members. Through 17 schools and colleges spread across three urban sites, it offers bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, doctorates, and degrees in medicine, dentistry, business, and law.
Boston University Undergraduate Scholarships
Boston University offers a wide range of merit scholarships, some of which even pay the full tuition. The scholarships are open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, eligible non-citizens, and international students in all undergraduate disciplines. Some of these scholarships are need-based while others are offered on merit basis.

Boston University Trustee Scholarship
The Trustee Scholarship is BU’s most prestigious scholarship. Scholars join a distinctive campus community that provides possibilities for intellectual, cultural, and social development. Competitive candidates who rank among their class’s top achievers and exhibit exemplary involvement in their schools and communities are encouraged to apply.
The Trustee Scholarship is open to all students, including foreign, U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, and other eligible non-citizens. If certain requirements are completed, a Trustee Scholarship is renewable for four years and pays the full undergraduate tuition as well as the required undergraduate student fees.

How to Apply
When applying for a Trustee Scholarship:
- Apply by December 1 to one of BU’s undergraduate degree programs by submitting the Common Application and any other documents.
- Fill out the Common Application’s Trustee Scholarship essay as part of your BU application.
The Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship is given each year by the Board of Admissions to our incoming first-year students who exhibit extraordinary academic success. Presidential Scholars are among our brightest students academically, but they also go above and beyond the call of duty to lead their schools and communities. It is possible to complete up to four years of undergraduate education at BU with this $25,000 tuition scholarship.

How to Apply
No further application materials, essays, or forms are necessary. By December 1, students who want to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship must submit their application and accompanying documentation.
National Merit Scholarship
Boston University will examine high school seniors who have been selected as National Merit finalists and have been admitted as freshmen for a four-year, $25,000 tuition BU Presidential Scholarship.

By January 4, submit your admissions application and all supporting documentation. Register with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by March 1 and indicate BU as your top college option.
College Board National Recognition Programs
The four-year, $25,000 tuition BU Presidential Scholarship will be given to students with very good academic records who have been recognized by the College Board National Recognition Programs.

College of Engineering FIRST Robotics Scholarship
Students who have competed in FIRST Robotics for at least one full season in high school and who have applied to and been admitted to the College of Engineering are eligible for this four-year, $25,000 tuition scholarship. In the first two years of study, FIRST Scholars are also given funding to take part in a research program with a College of Engineering faculty member for up to 10 hours per week for one semester.

The need-based scholarships offered by BU are given out based on a mix of academic excellence and proven financial necessity. You must submit the two financial aid applications mentioned above in order to be considered for need-based grants and scholarships. Even if you don’t think you may qualify, we strongly advise students and families to apply.
