Candidates must be females from developing nations and accepted into a graduate program in a STEM field at a university outside of their home country in order to be eligible for a Faculty for the Future fellowship. Additionally, they need to have a strong academic history and show that they are dedicated to using their education to advance their home nation.

Over 800 women from more than 80 different countries have received fellowships through the Faculty for the Future fellowship program since its inception in 2004. Some of the most talented female scientists and engineers in the world have benefited from the program’s support for their education and research, and it has helped to advance STEM fields in underdeveloped nations.

Schlumberger Foundation

The Schlumberger Foundation is a nonprofit organization with the mission of advancing women’s participation in science and technology fields globally. It was established in 1954 by the Schlumberger brothers, who founded Schlumberger Limited, a multinational oilfield services company.

The Foundation runs two programs: the STEM Education program supports initiatives to enhance STEM education at the primary and secondary levels, particularly for girls; and the Faculty for the Future Fellowship program awards fellowships to women from developing nations who are pursuing advanced degrees in STEM fields.

The Schlumberger Foundation has funded numerous initiatives to advance STEM education and has assisted thousands of women in STEM fields since its founding. According to the organization, funding women’s STEM education is essential for advancing scientific innovation and research, fostering economic growth, and addressing pressing global issues like climate change and public health.

Faculty for the Future Fellowship Program

The long-term objective of the Faculty for the Future fellowship program is to hasten gender equality in STEM by creating circumstances that encourage more women to pursue scientific careers by removing some of the obstacles they face when enrolling in STEM disciplines. The program recognizes that full access to and participation in a STEM curriculum is crucial for the empowerment of women and girls and is committed to gender parity in science in the interests of sustainable development. The talent and capabilities of these women can be developed for the advantage of their local communities, regions, and countries by accelerating gender equality in STEM.

The Faculty for the Future fellowship program provides fellowships for cutting-edge STEM research at prestigious research institutions abroad. After completing their studies, Faculty for the Future Fellows are expected to return to their home nations and advance the economic, social, and technological development of those areas by enhancing the STEM teaching and research faculties at their home institutions and by exercising leadership in the field of science-based entrepreneurship. They are also expected to contribute to the public sector, where their newly acquired technical and scientific knowledge can help provide fact-based justification for decisions regarding gender representation in STEM.
